KOTA KINABALU: A visiting Bruneian swim coach drowned while swimming at a serviced apartment’s pool here earlier today.
Muhammad Raemy Abdul Rahman, 40, was pronounced dead at 12.15pm after he was brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
In the incident, his 31-year-old fiancée from Brunei, was also swimming in the pool. She then noticed that he had been underwater for quite a while.
It was then when the fiancée’s older sister pulled him out of the water and had tried to revive him, immediately performing CPR.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said based on investigations, the victim and his family were here for a three-day holiday, having arrived yesterday and due to return tomorrow.
“There were no external injuries found on his physical body and no evident criminal elements,” he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death but investigations will continue.
“The Brunei consulate has been informed and will make arrangements to bring the body back to Brunei and we will do all we can to assist them,” he said.
