Swire Properties has launched its first residential project in Singapore designed by Thomas Heatherwick.

Dubbed EDEN, the project is Heatherwick’s first residential project in Asia.

Located at 2 Draycott Park in District 10, the project only features 20 apartments. Each unit comes with four en-suite bedrooms and occupies an entire floor spanning over 3,000 sq ft.

Inspired by the city-state’s vision as a ‘city in a garden’, the project features hanging balconies as centrepieces, providing residents a ‘private garden in the sky’, complete privacy and unobstructed 270-degree views.

“We wanted to create something distinct for Singapore to contrast a skyline filled with angular steel and glass towers,” said Heatherwick.

“Our design recreates the verdant garden access once ubiquitous in the city’s homes, extending the landscape of Singapore from ground level through the building via hanging gardens. This is truly a home in a garden, where residents can enjoy an unparalleled lifestyle.”

Set to be completed in Q4 2019, the project’s sustainable features have earned it a Green Mark Platinum rating from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

EDEN’s cantilevered balconies, for instance, offer solar shading. The units’ windows also open on three sides to allow natural cross-ventilation – reducing energy usage as the need for air-conditioning is minimised.

“We are excited to make our Singapore debut with a phenomenal residential project in the heart of the city, and are delighted to once again work with Thomas Heatherwick after our collaboration to contemporise Pacific Place mall in Hong Kong,” said Adrian To, residential director at Swire Properties.

“Thomas Heatherwick and his team have brought our vision of creating an exceptional living experience to life, and EDEN will undoubtedly set a new benchmark for sustainable ultra-luxury residences.”
