South Korea-based esports giant T1 announced on Wednesday (16 November) that they had disbanded their Southeast Asian Dota 2 team following its unsuccessful showing in the 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season and The International 11 (TI11).

With the announcement, Anathan "ana" Pham, Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen, Carlo "Kuku" Palad, Kenny "Xepher" Deo, and Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon have been released to free agency.

Kuku, Xepher, and Whitemon had all previously announced that they are LFT (looking for team) and are expected to remain in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, Topson is expected to return to competing in Western Europe, while it remains unclear if ana will continue competing.

T1 notably did not indicate in their announcement if the organisation will remain competing in the Dota 2 scene.

"Today we decided to disband our Dota 2 roster. We thank Topson, ana, Kuku, Xepher, and Whitemon for their time with us. We wish them the best of luck for the future," T1 said in a statement.

"Thank you #T1Nation for supporting us since the beginning!"

The disbandment of T1's roster is the latest of many roster moves in the global Dota 2 scene's ongoing post-TI11 roster shuffle.

With so much of the Dota 2 competitive scene cantered around TI and its multimillion-dollar prize pools, most teams are formed with the goal of getting to the game's world championship tournament in a bid to claim the Aegis of Champions and the lion's share of the massive prize.

But only one team can win TI, with Tundra Esports being crowned as the champions of TI11 this year.

With that, the rest of the scene are now scrambling to assemble the best rosters possible to try again next year.
