JOHOR BARU: The condition of 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi has become more critical now, as an operation to amputate his right hand was aborted.

His aunt, Dzuraidah Ahmad said that she can only help by praying for his recovery upon being informed that her nephew's condition took a turn for the worse today.

"Pray for the best for Thaqif...the operation on his hand will not occur. His condition is not stable. It is more critical," she told the New Straits Times.

Thaqif's surgery to amputate his right hand had been scheduled at 8am today but it was postponed due to the boy's unstable heart.

Thaqif, who is a pupil at a religious school in Kota Tinggi, had his legs amputated by doctors last Friday to stop an infection.

This occurred after he allegedly received beatings from an assistant warden at his hostel, who beat him and 14 other pupils with a rubber hose on March 24.

Police arrested the assistant warden to facilitate investigation for ill-treatment of children and he had his remand order extended by another three days today.
