Tahfiz school beating: Ministry awaits full report from HSI over Thaqif's death

PUTRAJAYA:The Health Ministry is waiting for full medical report from Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) on the cause of death of 11-year-old tahfiz school pupil Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi who died at 2.05pm today.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said the report would reveal if the boy had suffered from other health problems which could have aggravated his condition.

"I can't reveal the cause of death of the boy without receiving a full medical report. We know there were evidence of injury, evidence of bleeding underneath the skin, blood clots which could have led to the infections.

"So these are the possibilities which could led to his death. However, I have to get the full report from those who treated him before I can say anything," he told reporters here today.

Dr Subramanian said the ministry will issue a statement in two weeks on the boy's pre-medical condition and the cause of death.

Last Friday, Thaqif had both his legs amputated to prevent the spread of an infection and another surgery the next day to treat congealed blood in one of his hands.

He had been hospitalised after severe bouts of pain which occurred days after he had been allegedly beaten by the assistant warden at his religious school hostel in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
