Tanjung Malim horror crash: Trailer driver to be charged tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of the trailer involved in an accident on the North-South Expressway near the Tanjung Malim toll plaza, which killed a family of six, is expected to be charged tomorrow.

Selangor traffic chief Supt Kamaludin Mohamad said the 27-year-old driver is expected to be charged at the Kuala Kubu Bharu magistrates court in the morning.

“The driver is expected to be charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving leading to death,” he said.

The accident on Sunday at KM 403.3 claimed the lives of Lam Wai Loon, 46; his wife Wong Check Lee, 53; their sons Lam Jie Yang, 19, and Lam Jie Yong, 13; as well as Wai Loon’s father, Lam Leong Choy, 76; and brother, Lam Wai Keat, 38.

The driver of the earth-laden north-bound lorry was said to have lost control of his vehicle, which skidded and ploughed into the family’s MPV which was on the same lane.
