Tawanchai Confident Ahead Of Muay Thai Battle With Kickboxing Great Sittichai: ‘Muay Thai Is My Way’

·2-min read

In a ONE Super Series Muay Thai clash of epic proportions, two Thai legends are going to battle it out in the main event of ONE: BATTLEGROUND III.

Muay Thai great Tawanchai PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym takes on kickboxing star Sitthichai “Killer Kid” Sitsongpeenong in a featherweight Muay Thai matchup this Friday, 27 August, and a win for Tawanchai would earn what he believes is his due recognition.

“If I could win, people all over the world would accept me and see I could fight with a world-class fighter. So, I need to pass him to gain my fame,” Tawanchai said.

The #4-ranked bantamweight tore up the scene in his ONE Championship debut at ONE: DANGAL, where he clobbered Sean “Clubber” Clancy with left kicks en route to a knockout win.

Against Sittichai, however, he’ll be up against a different caliber of fighter. “Killer Kid” has been dominating the kickboxing scene for close to seven years.

However, Tawanchai thinks Sittichai’s time away from Muay Thai will work out in his favor come Friday night.

“I think I have an advantage in terms of Muay Thai rules,” Tawanchai said. “[Sitthichai] hasn’t done Muay Thai for a long time. Muay Thai is my way.”

He’ll have to use his Muay Thai skills against Sittichai, who tends to favor punching and kneeing. And although Tawanchai’s confident he’ll beat the Sitsongpeenong standout, he also knows the win won’t come easy.

“I think the most dangerous weapons in Sitthichai’s [skill set] are his punch and left kick,” Tawanchai said.

“I’ll use my Muay Thai tactics to win. I’m swifter and faster. It’d be great to knock him out, but it’d be hard. I just want to win, whether by a KO or not.”

Although he’s not looking past Sittichai, the man from PK.Seanchai Muaythaigym wants to continue his way through ONE Super Series until he reaches the pinnacle of ONE Super Series and challenges ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy.

Only then will he be satisfied with his work.

“I need to get it,” he said. “That’s my new goal. I’ll win the belt from Petchmorakot.”

Catch all the action at the previously recorded ONE: BATTLEGROUND III, which airs on Friday, 27 August, on meWATCH and the ONE Super App at 8:30 p.m. SGT.
