Taylor Swift Changes in the Middle of the 2024 MTV VMAs — and Fans Are 'Down Bad' for Her UFO Minidress

Swifties are loving the nod to her 'TTPD' song

Of course Taylor Swift wasn't going to wear just one dress for the 2024 MTV VMAs.

The "Fortnight" singer switched to a beaded minidress after getting inside the awards show — and the dress had a UFO on the front, which felt like a nice nod to the singer's hit "Down Bad" from her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department.

The blue and green custom Monse dress, which also had leather straps and a gathered skirt (and which she paired with a Rainbow K diamond horn earring), featured a beaded UFO right in the center of the chest — an Easter egg, perhaps?

Swift said on iHeartRadio in April that the lyrics in "Down Bad" are about being "love bombed," comparing it to abandonment and alien abduction.

"Like this girl is abducted by aliens but she wanted to stay with them," she said. "And then they drop her off back in her hometown. She’s like, 'Wait, no. Where are you going? I liked it there, it was weird but it was cool, come back.'"

Swifties on social media immediately picked up on the reference, calling the outfit change the "Down Bad dress."

When Swift first showed up at UBS Arena in New York on Sept. 11, she was rocking a completely vamped-up Dior look. She teamed a yellow plaid bustier top featuring an attached skirt with a pair black velvet hot pants and caged leather gloves. Swift also kept on her thigh-high boot streak in a pair of Stuart Weitzman's Maverick boots, which retail for $1,200 and are currently sold out.

She topped the look with dramatic glam and even ditched her signature red lip. Her hair was styled with messy textured waves and side-swept bangs.

And of course she was bejeweled, wearing 30-carat Lorraine Schwartz pear shape canary yellow diamond earrings surrounded by black Jade to play up the the yellow plaid.

Swift is nominated for 10 awards at this year's show, including best collaboration with Post Malone for "Fortnight" and artist of the year, both of which she won. Post Malone is the second most nominated artist of the night, with nine nominations to his name.
