Team Newbee: the Chinese Dota 2 dream team is here

The rumored Dota 2 Chinese dream team is a rumor no more, as an earlier announcement on the Dota 2 Weibo account finally announced its much-awaited roster. Team Newbee has enlisted Chen ‘Hao’ Zhihao, Zhang ‘Mu’ Pan, Zhang ‘xiao8′ Ning, Gong ‘ZSMJ’ Jian and Zhou ‘KingJ’ Yang.

The name Newbee may seem like an alternate spelling to the word ‘newbie’, but it’s also possible that it may be an Anglicized form of ‘niubi’, which is a slang term that means awesome.

Looking back, Team Newbee’s lineup is different from as originally rumored. The team was speculated to have Zeng ‘Faith’ Hongda and Wong ‘ChuaN’ Hock Chuan instead of ZSMJ and KingJ, but did not push through because both ChuaN and Faith changed their minds. ChuaN did say that he was supposed to accept the invitation to join the new dream team, but also added that a conversation with Faith made him change his mind, leading to his return to Invictus Gaming.

Now the question is if this team will actually be able to fulfill the community’s expectations. Newbee is made up of five experienced players, so individual skill is out of the question. What it needs to find is synergy between their players.

The other Chinese dream team, Team DK, didn’t make any roster changes because their current lineup had five individually skilled players with good synergy. If Team Newbee wants to be the Chinese dream team, they need to find their rhythm as a team.

Team Newbee’s debut match will be the qualifiers of the Sina Cup Season 3, where they will face off against other Chinese teams including Team DK, Vici Gaming, and Invictus Gaming.
