Team Secret has announced their entry into the competitive scene for League of Legends: Wild Rift, the official mobile port for League of Legends, with a team that will be based in the Philippines.

Secret first teased their expansion to the Philippines back in September, then officially confirmed the formation of a Filipino team in late October.

The organisation called the Philippines “ground zero for all things Wild Rift”, as it was one of the only two countries, the other being Brazil, that was selected as testing grounds for the game’s limited alpha launch back in June.

Wild Rift was also first released in close beta in the Philippines and four other Southeast Asian countries in mid-September.

“For Team Secret as well, Philippines has been our second home, a place where we feel comfortable and welcomed by the gaming community. So it's without further mystery and with the greatest of pride that we announce our Wild Rift division, with the Philippines as our future base of operations,” Secret said in a statement.

Secret revealed that they will be recruiting established players and scouting for undiscovered talent in the Philippines and surrounding regions for their Wild Rift team, boasting that with their “world-class training, facilities, and management staff, Team Secret is ready to build our Wild Rift Champion”.

“Our unique approach to building Champions is something we want to bring to the Filipino esports community. I always tell people — give us 3 seasons and we can build a Champion team. That's been true in our Malaysia operations, our Thailand operations, and it's happening in our Vietnam operations as well. Come join us on this journey, and we will do our best to make PH proud as well," said Team Secret CEO John Yao.

Secret is the first major esports organisation outside of Asia to announce their entry into Wild Rift, though their team will ultimately be operating in the region.

Some of the other organisations already looking to establish teams in Wild Rift include Bigetron Esports, BOOM Esports, EVOS Esports, Rex Regum Qeon in Indonesia as well as Nova Esports in China and Noble Esports in India.

Secret establishing a Wild Rift team in the Philippines is part of the organisation’s continuing effort to expand into Southeast Asia, which also includes the formation of an Indonesian team.

Secret is already operating three teams in the region; a League of Legends team in Vietnam as well as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile squads in Malaysia and Thailand.

However, the organisation’s main base of operations is in Europe, where they operate teams in Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rainbow Six: Siege, and TrackMania.
