Team SMG release Mushi after making upper division of SEA DPC
Team SMG announced on Sunday (23 May) that they released Southeast Asian Dota legend Chai "Mushi" Yee Fung from their Dota 2 roster, after qualifying for the upper division of the Dota Pro Circuit's (DPC) Southeast Asian regional league.
Mushi headlined Team SMG's entry into Dota 2 back in January, but the team was unable to qualify for Season 1 of the DPC. After Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zheng and Damien "kpii" Chok joined the team in April, Team SMG qualified for the lower division of the Southeast Asian league in Season 2.
Despite a 2-1 start for Team SMG in their first two weeks in the lower division, the team decided to swap out Mushi for Roger "Roddgeee" Tan for the rest of the season. After Mushi departed the active roster, Team SMG won the rest of their matches to finish the lower division in second place and earn a promotion to the upper division in the next DPC.
"Today we bid goodbye to Mushi, as he embarks on a new journey. Thank you, Mushi, for the contributions you have made to Team SMG. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors," Team SMG said in a statement on its official Facebook page.
Mushi said in a post on his own Facebook page that he will "still be active in the scene" and that he is willing to move to a new home or role in order to achieve his "goal".
"Everything that has a beginning has an ending. Every end is also a new beginning. I'll still be active in the scene, changing a to new 'home' or even a new role to achieve my goal. I have a dream, the same dream, and I'm not giving up yet. Thanks to Team SMG for the great experience," said Mushi.
Mushi is one of the most decorated Dota players in Southeast Asia and is one of the few remaining active players whose professional careers started during the days of the original Dota mod for WarCraft III.
He boasts three Top 4 finishes in The International (TI) in his career, including a third place finish in TI3 with Orange Esports and two fourth place finishes in TI4 with Team DK and TI6 with Fnatic.
