Tech agenda: GDC, CeBIT, SXSW

After a bumper week of smartphone and tablet announcements at Mobile World Congress, things are not slowing down on the technology scene. During the first week of March gamers will have their eyes on the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, CeBIT -- the world’s largest digital IT and telecommunications event -- will open in Germany, and music and technology junkies will be following the latest trends at SXSW.

26th Game Developers Conference

Consisting of talks for the industry, by the industry, but with plenty of tidbits for interested onlookers. GDC's main annual conference doubles as venue for the Independent Game Festival and its award show, as well as the respected Game Developers Choice Awards.

CeBIT 2012

With its 450,000-square-meter exhibition space, CeBIT remains the world's largest digital IT and telecommunications event and eclipses the likes of COMPUTEX, CES and SITEX in exhibition size. “Managing Trust” is the keynote theme in 2012 and concrete solutions for digital and physical security will be on show in the fair’s CeBIT Security World. Related events include CeBIT Bilisim Eurasia (October) and CeBit Australia (May 22-24, 2012).

26th SXSW / 19th SXSW Interactive

The annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference & Festival attracts an estimated 100,000 members of the international music, film, and interactive media industries in Austin, Texas, for a week-long convergence of ideas and talent. The "brightest minds in emerging technology" come to showcase digital works, innovative ideas and new products under the banner of SXSW Interactive. Like the newer European-based LeWeb conference, SXSW Interactive focuses on emerging technology, social media and startups.

Electronic House Expo

EHX (Electronic House Expo) is an expo that caters for people interested in home health tech, smart energy, electronic security, digital media and custom electronics. In 2012 the New Opportunities Pavilion at EHX will be dedicated to numerous aspects of 'connected living' including ‘smart energy management', ‘home health tech'  and ‘remote diagnostics'. Though the event is not used as a product launchpad in the same way the CES (January) is, for example, it nonetheless serves as an insight into the future of smart grid / home appliances technologies.

4th EmTech India

61st Hannover Messe

Hannover Messe is the world's biggest industrial fair and is home to the latest industrial technology innovations. The event itself is made up of several different trade fairs, each focused on a different area of industrial technology. China is this year's partner country with the theme ‘Green Intelligence'. In total more than 4,500 innovations will be on display across all categories, far eclipsing almost any other trade show with a focus on renewable energy.

7th The Next Web Conference

Speakers include Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Delicious CEO Chad Hurley, angel investor Kevin Rose, Amazon CTO Werner Vogels, and Adobe cheif strategist Mark Randall. TNW encompasses the third annual TNW Hack Battle, the CxO summit for senior executives, and the TNW Startup Rally.

2nd BlackBerry World

The annual BlackBerry Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES) is now part of BlackBerry World, a conference dedicated to Research In Motion’s (RIM) BlackBerry mobile phone and tablet platform. BlackBerry World features new technology and software announcements as well as discussions about how the BlackBerry mobile solution can be improved. BlackBerry World expects to attract around 5,000 putting it on par with Apple's WWDC and Google’s I/O developer events, however unlike WWDC and Google I/O, BlackBerry World is not just reserved for developers. There are Demo sessions to show products in action, BlackBerry Training sessions, hands-on labs, and keynotes by top industry executives.
