Ted Lasso season 3 spoilers follow.

The latest episode of Ted Lasso's third (and possibly final) season confirmed the fan theories that Billy Harris' Colin Hughes is gay.

In the episode that dropped on Apple TV+ today (March 29), titled '4-5-1', we saw Colin kiss his partner Michael (Sam Liu) in his house at the start of the day. Later on, at a meal celebrating the team's recent win streak, Colin brings along Michael and introduces him as his wing-man instead of his boyfriend.

The two later share a kiss in the street, which is seen by journalist Trent Crimm (James Lance). Considering Trent's history of writing exposés, will he publicly out Colin?

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the show's boss Brendan Hunt explained: "[We're doing Colin's story now] because we didn't quite do it in season 2. But we were close – like we almost had it as a storyline in season 2.

"But we decided it actually tells the story better if we show another year, which we will realise retroactively of hiding, of having to still not be his honest self. But, you know, it's a story that comes up a lot in football, and we're trying to show you know, at least some of the reality of how football works.

"So it just happened very, very organically and we've known it's been heading that way for a while. But yeah, it felt like now is the time to finally be getting at it."

Hunt told Radio Times of the storyline: "It was just a matter of when we were going to finally get to that. It's still a taboo in football, but there are more active players who are coming out."
