Teen killed, two injured in single-vehicle Langkawi crash

LANGKAWI: A hotel employee was killed, while two of his colleagues escaped with minor injuries, when the Nissan Sentra they were in crashed into an electrical post at Jalan Pantai Tengah here, early today.

Muhammad Yusri Bakar, 19, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, was killed on the spot in the 3am incident.

The car driver, Nor Syakawie Najimi Nor Hisham, 23, and another passenger, identified only as Kevin from Indonesia, survived with minor injuries and were rushed to the Langkawi Hospital.

Langkawi police Superintendent Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said the incident occurred when the trio were traveling from Kampung Temoyong to Pantai Chenang.

"(At some point), the driver lost control of the car, causing it to skid (to the side of the road) before crashing into the electrical post,” he said, adding that the trio were employees of a hotel in Pantai Kok here.

The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
