Teen molested sister, offered BTS merchandise in return for sexual favour
SINGAPORE — He molested his then 12-year-old sister twice in two months and even asked her to masturbate him on one occasion in exchange for Korean pop group BTS merchandise.
At the State Courts on Tuesday (3 December), the 18-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated molest and one count of attempting to procure an indecent act with his sister, who is now 13.
A charge of using criminal force on her, by hugging her from behind, will be taken into consideration for sentencing.
Both a probation and reformative training (RT) report have been called for the accused, who will return to court on 10 December. None of the parties can be named to protect the girl’s identity.
Accused’s conduct was ‘persistent’
In January this year, the girl headed to her brother’s room to ask for help with her homework. While she was seated next to him on his bed, he rubbed her genital area over her shorts for about five seconds. The girl, who was then 12, ran out of the room.
The second molestation took place a month later, after the family had moved to a new home in which the siblings shared a bedroom. While arguing over what television programme to watch, the accused suddenly lifted his sister up and stroked her private parts again before laying her on his bed.
In response, the girl yelled at him to get out of the bedroom and he complied.
On 15 April, the girl returned home at about 6pm to find the door to their bedroom closed. After knocking and receiving no response for a while, the girl opened the door.
Her brother had been masturbating but stopped when his sister opened the door. The girl then closed the door and went to the living room but her brother followed her.
“He repeatedly asked the victim to masturbate him... He offered to buy her merchandise from a Korean pop group ‘BTS’ in return,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Ryan Lim.
The girl made a police report about the molestations on 24 April. DPP Lim said the accused had shown “persistent conduct over a number of months” and noted the victim’s young age at the time of the offences.
Asked by the judge for his mitigation, the teenager – who was unrepresented – said he had nothing to say.
However, he asked the court for permission to leave Singapore for a holiday in Bali with his friends. The request was rejected by the judge as it overlapped with the one-week remand period he was ordered to serve for his probation and RT assessment.
