At least 10 people have been killed after gunmen opened fire in a bar in central Mexico's Queretaro state on Saturday night.

Four attackers carrying long-range weapons stormed into Los Cantaritos bar shortly after 9pm local time and opened fire on patrons, according to local security officials.

The incident was first reported by Reuters and AFP, with further details emerging through local media reports.

Public security secretariat Juan Luis Ferrusca told a local website: “Through a call to 911 where they reported detonations on Circunvalación Street, specifically at the Los Cantaritos bar, the emergency services arrived at the scene, where they confirmed that four people with long weapons arrived on board a van that was identified.”

Seven men and three women were killed in the attack, according to reports.

Querétaro Mayor Felifer Macías tweeted: “We are in permanent coordination with the State Government Security System, corporations of the metropolitan area and the State Attorney General's Office, to find those responsible for the events that occurred tonight in the city.

“We are assisting the victims and collaborating in the investigations. The municipal government is using all its strength to protect Querétaro.”
