Fiorentina have rejected a loan offer from Manchester United for Sofyan Amrabat, who is considered to be Erik ten Hag’s primary target.
It’s no secret that Ten Hag is looking to bolster his midfield before the transfer window slams shut on Friday, and has had his eye on Amrabat for some time.
The manager knows the 27-year-old well from their time together at Dutch club Utrecht. He is also considered to be one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe, so could form a formidable partnership with Casemiro.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Man Utd have submitted a loan offer to sign Amrabat from Fiorentina. He has one year remaining on his current contract, but Fiorentina have an option to extend it by another year.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Amrabat this summer, too, and Jurgen Klopp is also keen to bring in another midfielder before the transfer deadline.
It now seems that the Merseyside club could get another chance to make a move for Amrabat, with Man Utd’s latest bid knocked back by Fiorentina.
Fiorentina reject Amrabat loan offer from Man Utd
According to Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio, Fiorentina have no intention of letting Amrabat leave on loan, despite Man Utd’s latest offer.
Writing for Calcio Mercato, he wrote: “Fiorentina is holding firm on the Amrabat front. The Viola have rejected all the loan offers received in Florence, including a further offer that Manchester United has made in the last few hours.
“Galatasaray also approached the Moroccan midfielder, but so far without success.”
Man Utd have signed Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund for a combined £165m so far this summer. However, due to FFP issues, they are reluctant to sanction any more major incomings.
That is why they wanted to sign Amrabat on loan, rather than permanently.
Earlier this month, Robbie Savage explained why the Morocco international would be a good fit for the Red Devils.
“I watched him in in the Europa Conference League final, he’s a very very good player, was unbelievable in the World Cup from that deep midfield role,” Savage told TEAMtalk.
“He can get on the ball, he can dictate he can he can pop passes, he can switch play, can pass forward. Next to Casemiro, he would be fantastic.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Man Utd bite the bullet and submit an offer to sign Amrabat permanently in the next few days.
If they don’t, other suitors such as Liverpool, or Galatasaray, could make their own move and swoop for the Fiorentina star’s signature.
