Christopher Nolan’s decision to premiere the latest trailer for Tenet on the video game Fortnite certainly surprised movie experts.

Nolan has been the biggest supporter of the cinematic experience, especially as the rise of streaming services have convinced more and more people to watch the latest movie releases at home instead of on the big-screen.

Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director at Epic Games, has now revealed exactly how the decision to release Tenet’s trailer on Fortnite originated, taking to Twitter to write, “The idea of debuting the Tenet trailer came from a phone call with Christopher Nolan.”

“We were all talking about our love of seeing new trailers in a theater and how sad we were that we can’t do that right now - but how maybe this could be the next best thing... When we do anything like this, it’s always born and driven from a relationship between creatives trying to bring something we think is awesome to life.”

Clearly Nolan agreed. So much so that he has now gone one step further, because during the Tenet trailer premiere it was announced that Nolan is going to screen one of his “iconic films” on Fortnite later this summer, too.

If you have never played or seen footage from Fortnite, and can’t imagine how the trailer for Tenet actually premiered on a video game, the below images are for you.

Of course, we’re still not exactly sure when Tenet will be released, with the trailer itself even omitting a confirmed date.

It had previously been reported that Nolan was adamant Tenet would be the first movie to re-open cinemas on July 17. But the continued threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to quarantine, means that looks increasingly unlikely.
