T'ganu cops looking for lorry driver after woman claims she was raped

KUALA TERENGGANU: Police are looking for a 30-year-old lorry driver suspected to have raped a 24-year-old woman at an empty house in Kampung Serada, last month.


A police source said the suspect was believed to have gone into hiding after the victim lodged a police report at the Kuala Terengganu police station on Feb 26.


He said initial investigation revealed the suspect had befriended the victim last month, while she was working at a 'keropok' stall near Seberang Takir.


"On their first date, the man fetched her in his car and took her to an area in Kampung Cina where he started to hugged and kissed her," he said.


The man then sent her home and told her not to tell anyone about the incident.


"The suspect also threatened to inform her family about her past relationship if she refused to date him again. Worry about the threat, she went out with him again in

min-February," he said today.


The source added that on their second date, the suspect took her to an empty house in Serada where he allegedly raped her.


Kuala Terengganu deputy police chief Superintendent Suffian Sulaiman confirmed the report and said the case is being investiagted under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
