A video purporting to show an explosion during Thursday (23 February) morning’s blaze at a waste management plant in Tuas is fake.

In the video, which made its rounds on social media and was even picked up by some news sites, a man can be heard exclaiming in Cantonese as a large explosion erupts an unspecified industrial facility.

The video in question appears to be a shortened version of another video, titled “Chinese gas plant explosion”, which was posted on YouTube in November 2015.

The actual Tuas fire broke out at ECO Special Waste Management on 23 Tuas View Circuit and was put out after four hours by some 200 Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel.
