Thomson Line on track to open from 2019

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the last three civil contracts for Thomson Line's Orchard, Marina South and Gardens by the Bay stations and tunnels at around $1.32 billion on 25 July.

The construction of Orchard station has been awarded to Penta-Ocean Construction – Bachy Soletanche Singapore Joint Venture, at a contract of about $498 million.

The Marina South station and tunnels will be constructed by Sinohydro Corporation (Singapore Branch) – Sembcorp Design and Construction Joint Venture, for a contract sum of $488 million.

Lastly, at a contract sum of $331 million, the construction of the Gardens by the Bay station and tunnels was awarded to Nishimatsu Construction – Bachy Soletanche Singapore Joint Venture.

"With the award of these three civil contracts, LTA has awarded all the 25 major civil contracts for Thomson Line at a total cost of approximately $7.77 billion. Construction works for Thomson Line are currently in full swing and the line is on track to open in phases between 2019 and 2021," LTA's Deputy Chief Executive Chua Chong Kheng said.

The 30-km long fully-underground Thomson Line comprises 22 stations which will connect the northern and central parts of Singapore to the city and the rest of the MRT network.
