MUAR: Three people died and 14 others were injured when an express bus crashed into a trailer in an accident along KM138 at the North-South Highway (PLUS) southbound, near Pagoh early Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Siew Kee, 61, and Lai Moon Ching, 25. The other deceased was a Chinese male in his 40s, whose identity has yet to be ascertained.
The bus was ferrying 25 passengers from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.
Muar district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Zaharudin Rasip, said that at 2.30am, the bus veered to the left and crashed against a trailer.
“The impact led to three bus passengers being thrown out of the vehicle. One died at the scene while two others died en route to the hospital.
“The injured victims were taken to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) in Muar and the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat.
“One of the deceased was sent to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital while two others were sent to the HPSF,” he said.
The bus’s two drivers only sustained minor injuries while the driver of the trailer was unhurt.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
