Three, including 8-month-old baby, dies in LPT2 accident


KEMAMAN: Three people, including two siblings, died while another five were injured in an accident involving two cars at Km 304 of the East Coast Expressway, heading towards Kuala Terengganu, near Seri Bandi, this morning.

Kemaman District Police Chief Supt Mohd Said Ibrahim said in the incident at 11.15am, two-year-old Wedad Abdullah and her sister Weaam Lukman, 8 months old, died at the scene.

The Proton Wira they were travelling in with their parents, Lukman Waeni, 31, and Hnan Ismail, 23, which had stopped in the emergency lane, was hit by a Perodua Axia, causing both children to be thrown out of the vehicle.

"However, Lukman and Hnan only suffered light injuries and received treatment at the Kemaman Hospital,” he said.

“Another victim who died was a passenger in the Perodua Axia, Haznah Ali, 59, who suffered internal injuries, while three others in the car had slight injuries,” Mohd Said told Bernama when contacted.

Meanwhile, in KUANTAN, a married couple lost two children after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a street lamp in Jalan Beserah here last night.

According to Pahang Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department head Supt Kamarulzaman Jusoh said Nur Nailah Al Farafisha Mohd Helmiardi, who is only 2 years and 11 months old, and her sister Nur Afrina Safiya, 11 months old, were confirmed dead at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here early this morning.

He said their parents, Mohd Helmiardi Nosaha, 29, a religious school teacher, and Nor Yumni Yahya, 24, also received medical treatment at the same hospital. --Bernama © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
