Three killed, three injured in two-car collision

SETIU: Three people were killed and three others injured when the cars they were travelling in collided near Kampung Pak Kancil here, yesterday morning.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Zulkifli Mat Deris said the collision involving the two Proton Wira occurred at Kilometre 66, Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu at 3.30am.

Zulkifli said the deceased were identified as policeman Faiezal Abdul Kayim, 42, his friend Ahmad Zaki Baharudin, 37, and the second car's driver Nur Lyza Syahira Ahmad Hazly, 17.

He said 15-year-old Nur Laila Zukiman was seriously injudred while Hizami Abd Halim, 32 and Muhammad Hasrah Abdullah, 17, escaped with light injuries.

He said the car driven by Hizami was heading towards Kota Baru before it skidded and collided head on with Nur Lyza’s car from the opposite direction.

“Both Ahmad Zaki and Feizal, who were in Hizami’s car, died due to serious head and body injuries,” he said.

He said Nur lyza succumbed to her injuries at the Setiu Hospital.

The dead were sent to the hospital’s forensic unit for post mortem while Nur Laila was admitted to the same hospital to receive treatment.

The case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act for causing death by dangerous driving.
