NANNING: Three Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) have secured RM7.4 million export deals at the 14th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) this year.
The three, Hakimah Bakery, Siti Nora Enterprise and Adeqsue Resources Sdn Bhd, are part of the 20 local entrepreneurs selected by the ECER Development Council to showcase their products at CAEXPO 2017.
These companies today exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with trade partners in China to exclusively distribute halal food products to the country over the next two years.
ECER Development Council Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John said the MoU exchange serves as a proof of the entrepreneurs’ success in growing their business by adapting and responding to the global market needs.
“In fact there are many cross-border opportunities waiting to be seized by our participants and we are confident that more deals and partnerships will be sealed by the entrepreneurs leveraging on the halal and handicraft products, by the end of the exhibition,” he said after the exchange of the MoU here today.
Jebasingam explained that under the MoU, Hakimah Bakery will be supplying ‘bangkit durian’, worth RM3.7 million via Kuantan-Qinzhou Chamber of Commerce to the Chinese market.
As for, Adeqsue Resources Sdn Bhd, it has sealed a RM2.25 million contract with Guangxi Wan Chen Feng Industrial Co Ltd to distribute Malaysian cuisine cooking pastes and sauces such as Grilled Fish Paste and Spicy Anchovy Sauce.
“The international trade mission has opened up doors for us to reinforce our presence overseas,” Adeqsue CEO Shukuriah Abdul Ghaffar said.
Meanwhile, Siti Nora Enterprise managed to seal an export deal worth RM1.45 million with the Kuantan-Qinzhou Chamber of Commerce to supply various flavoured ‘muruku’ to China.
The four-day expo, held annually in Nanning since 2004, is a platform to promote cooperation between China and Asean in the fields of trade, investment and tourism.
The theme for this year’s CAEXPO is “Jointly Build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Promote Regional Economic Integration through Tourism”.
Trade between Malaysia and China expanded by 27.7 per cent to RM163.02 billion for the first half of 2017, with higher imports from China including petroleum products, electrical and electronic products as well as machinery, equipment and parts.
