Only eight teams remain in contention for the Aegis of Champions at The International 11 (TI11) after Day 3 of the Main Event, which ended up as a bittersweet day for fans of Western European Dota 2.

Two of the six Western European teams in TI11 have been sent home after Gaimin Gladiators and Entity were knocked out by OG and Team Liquid, respectively, in the second round of the lower bracket.

The action then moved to the upper bracket, where two of the Top 3 teams were determined in the upper bracket semifinals. Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) winner Team Secret made short work of South American hopefuls Thunder Awaken while another Western European powerhouse in Tundra Esports swept China's Team Aster.

Here's what went down in all the matches in Day 3 of TI11's Main Event.

Lower bracket round 2

OG 2-1 Gaimin Gladiators

OG and Gaimin Gladiators slugged it out in the first-ever full three-game series of the Main Event. While OG took an easy game one victory, the Gladiators were able to win a hard-fought game two and force a decider.

Despite their best efforts, the Gladiators lost to OG in the third game and became the first Western European team to get knocked out of TI11.

The second lower bracket match of the day also went the distance. Team Liquid opened the series with a convincing victory, though Entity struck back hard in game two and took the series to a third game.

Liquid then outlasted Entity in a 51-minute slugfest to take the 2-1 series victory.

Team Secret 2-0 Thunder Awaken

Tundra Esports 2-0 Team Aster

Tundra Esports became the second Western European team in the Top 3 after they swept Team Aster. While the series ended in just two games, both games were hard-fought. Game one lasted 49 minutes while game two took 40 minutes.

All of the matches in Day 4 of TI11's Main Event will be in the lower bracket, where the competition will be cut down to just the final four teams.

The day will begin in the third round of the lower bracket, where PSG.LGD will take on Beastcoast and OG will face Team Liquid.

The winners of those matches will then advance to the fourth round of the lower bracket. The winner of the PSG.LGD-Beastcoast match will go up against Team Aster and the winner of the OG-Team Liquid match will take on Thunder Awaken.

After Day 4 of the Main Event, there will be five-day break before the Finals Weekend from 29 to 30 October. 29 October will feature the upper bracket finals between Team Secret and Tundra Esports as well as the lower bracket semifinals.

A new Dota 2 world champion will be crowned on 30 October, which will begin with the lower bracket finals. The Aegis of Champions will then be claimed by the winners of the best-of-five grand finals.

TI11 will be hosted in Singapore from 15 to 30 October and features a revamped format and a longer schedule.
