With 18 teams from across the world currently gathered in Shanghai to compete for the biggest prize of all in Dota 2, all eyes are on this grand dame of esports events.

Two of the 18 teams, Chaos Esports and Ninjas in Pyjamas, did not make it past the Group Stage.

Alliance, Keen Gaming, Fnatic and Natus Vincere all departed on the opening day of the Main Stage (20 August) at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, while Virtus.pro and TNC Predator were eliminated on Day 2.

Yahoo Esports looks at the results of the remaining teams competing in TI9 right now.

TI9: Main Stage Day 3 Results

The first series of Thursday (22 August) saw tournament dark horses Infamous upset North American team Newbee 2-1.

The South American team started strong in the first game with a fairly aggressive style of play, but saw themselves pushed back in game two of the series.

However, the Newbee resurgence didn’t last long, and Infamous claimed another scalp on their TI9 journey.

Meanwhile, Southeast Asia’s hopes of a TI win were dashed as Mineski lost the second series of the day to Europe-based Team Secret.

Despite forcing a third game at 1-1 after an insane second match, the Philippines team found themselves outplayed, leaving the SEA region without a representative remaining in the tournament.

The first upper bracket series of the day was an all-Chinese affair as PSG.LGD faced off against Vici Gaming.

Despite strong home support for both teams, PSG.LGD swept Vici Gaming in two straight games, earning themselves a place in the upper bracket finals and at least a top 3 finish.

And in a rematch from the semifinals of TI8, OG defeated Evil Geniuses 2-1 in the final series of the day.

EG started strong initially, taking the first game with a strong draft, but the comeback from OG was real. After a shaky start to game two, OG gradually found their footing and forced the series to the third game.

The win sees OG taking their spot in the upper bracket finals, while Evil Geniuses move to the lower bracket and will face the winner of the Royal Never Give up/Team Liquid match-up.

Main Stage Day 4 preview

Day 4 is all about that lower bracket action, with Chinese team Royal Never Give Up and Team Liquid fighting it out for the right to face Evil Geniuses, and Infamous taking on Team Secret.

The winner of the RNG/Liquid series will then face Evil Geniuses, who will be looking to revive their TI9 hopes after today’s loss to OG.
