Tiffany Teo Confident Ahead Of World Title Rematch With Xiong

In just a few days, Tiffany “No Chill” Teo will get her long-awaited shot at redemption against the only woman to ever defeat her.

The #1-ranked strawweight contender is set to face ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan for the latter’s belt at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX this Friday, 30 October, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

“The rematch is a really rare opportunity because how often do you get to avenge a loss, right? And it’s the only loss on my record,” Teo said.

The Singaporean first met Xiong in January 2018 at ONE: KINGS OF COURAGE, where the superstar from China stopped her in the fourth round by TKO.

“No Chill” believes it will be a different story this time around after developing her game in a variety of ways.

“I feel like I’ve changed a lot as a mixed martial arts fighter over the years,” Teo said.

“The fighter I am today is a totally different fighter from who I was in 2018 when I first met her – and honestly, Tiffany in 2020 will beat up Tiffany in 2018, anytime, with ease.”

Meanwhile, “The Panda” has also transformed herself into a different type of force.

“She has evolved as a fighter over the years. I can see improvements in the aspects of her game. But I would say she’s very comfortable standing and striking,” Teo said.

“She tends to overwhelm, at least in her past few fights, with flurries of punches. I don’t think she has a knockout punch, but she’s so explosive. Most girls can’t deal with it. They’re not used to that kind of intensity.”

When the defending World Champion brings that intensity to the Circle this Friday, the Singaporean knows exactly what she will need to do.

“I have to stay composed when that happens,” Teo said.

“She wants me to not be composed and play her game, shoot for a desperate takedown. I can’t fall into that game. I have to stick to my own game plan.”

No matter how the rematch plays out, martial arts fans can expect a thrilling addition to the two-year rivalry.

And for her part, the challenger is filled with confidence.

“I want to be the World Champ. She’s in the way of my goal. She has the belt,” Teo said.

“I have to take the belt from her to achieve my goal. I want to dominate – dominate the whole fight. If it doesn’t end up in a sub or TKO, I want to dominate every round.”

Watch ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX on 30 October on meWATCH or the ONE Super App at 8:30 p.m. Singapore Standard Time (SGT). Also, Channel 5 will cut into the live broadcast at 10 p.m. SGT.
