Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness has had the world talking since it prowled onto Netflix in March, with the dramatic story of Joe Exotic – real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage – having viewers gripped.

The true crime documentary series gave us a look at the workings of Exotic's private zoo, in which he kept a host of animals such as tigers and lions in cages, and also explored his rivalry with animal rights activist Carole Baskin, who wanted to shut down his zoo.

Exotic is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted of conspiring in a murder plot against Baskin and of various animal welfare offences.

Despite his much-publicised feud with Baskin, Exotic has now said in an interview with Netflix that he is "done" with that part of his life.

"I'm done with the Carole Baskin saga," he said. "It's now time to turn the tables and Joe get out of jail a free man and exonerated from all these charges."

He added that he is "ashamed" of himself for keeping so many animals in confinement having now experienced being in prison, telling viewers to "go sit in a cage with your animal for a week" to find out what they have experienced.

And with his life having now been streamed by thousands of viewers, Exotic is especially keen to get out of prison and back into society.

"You know it would be nice if I could actually see me being famous out there but I've seen these same four walls for a year and a half now," he said.

It's been reported that, following the popularity of the series, an extra episode is now in the works but don't expect to see Baskin on the show again.

Exotic's husband Dillon Passage previously claimed that an episode with a different format might be in the works.

"It's going to be a live episode, kind of like a reunion. Netflix didn't contact me to [be] a part of that," he said.

And Baskin's representative also recently said: "We have not been approached about a new episode and would not participate if asked."
