TikTok dubs 89-year-old painter ‘Mama Coco’

A Mexican abuela has been dubbed TikTok’s Mama Coco.

Lithuania is a self-taught artist who posts videos of her 89-year-old grandma, Guadalupe Pantoja, making her abstract pieces. Lithuania’s TikTok parra.lithuania10 has become a destination for those seeking sentimental comfort as they watch Pantoja turn vibrant colors into gorgeous paintings.

In one video, Pantoja takes cups of light and dark blue paints and drips each onto a blank canvas. She blows on the paints, tilts the canvas and even uses her fingers to direct each color until it looks like an abstract ocean.

The video snagged over 894,000 views on TikTok.

“Mama Coco is that you?” one user commented.

“Mama Coco, we love her,” another said.

“The artist we didn’t know we needed,” one person added.

Lithuania spoke with In The Know about her abuelaturned-internet-darling.

“She got into painting because I wanted her to try something new and it lets us spend time together which is what she enjoys most,” Lithuania said. “And it helps her feel better. She says it takes away the stress.”

The granddaughter said that her Pantoja loves classic movies and shows like “El Chavo del Ocho,” and even named her bird Chavo after it. But she also is a big fan of Disney’s “Coco” because the character Mama Coco actually reminds Pantoja of her own mother.

She’ll be turning 90 this November and like Lithuania, she also has an Instagram dedicated to her art called abuelitas_paintings. She is even taking on a few limited commissions.

“She still can’t believe so many people have watched her and love seeing her paint,” Lithuania told In The Know. “Every time I show her the views and comments, she smiles and is so grateful”.
