The Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre reopens on Saturday (20 May) after being closed for a three-month revamp.

Renovations included new fixtures, energy-efficient lights, new fans and sun shades. New tables at the hawker centre will also have moveable seats to accommodate those in wheelchairs.

However, some hawkers told The Straits Times they were not optimistic of reopening their stalls on Saturday because they returned to the market only on Wednesday to begin cleaning and preparations.

The market first opened in January 1951 and was originally called the Seng Poh Road Market.
