Titans star replaces Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher in first trailer

Amazon have dropped the first-look trailer for Reacher, the small-screen adaptation of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels.

You probably best remember the character from a duo of films starring Tom Cruise, but now he's being portrayed by Alan Ritchson, an actor known for playing Aquaman in Smallville and Hawk from Titans. At 6 foot 2 inches, he's closer to the character's imposing 6 foot 5 than Cruise.

The trailer for the series shows our protagonist arriving in small town America, where he catches the eyes of the local authorities, who are impressed with his credentials but disturbed by the death that seems to have coincided with his arrival.

Soon he's put to task with cleaning up the bad guys, which involves a lot of punching, as you'd expect. At least he's polite enough to leave someone's bones unbroken so that they can drive to the hospital.

There's also the obligatory topless shot of him, plus a scene where he pops the top off a beer bottle with just his muscles which is actually really impressive.

The cast also includes What We Do in the Shadows' Harvey Guillén, iZombie's Malcolm Goodwin, The Goldfinch's Willa Fitzgerald and Lost in Space's Maxwell Jenkins, among others.

This first season of Reacher is based on Killing Floor, Child's first Jack Reacher novel. It's going to be eight episodes long, and all of them will drop on the same day.

It's not the first famous novel character named Jack that Amazon have made a TV series of, as they've had success with the new interpretation of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, now played by The US Office's John Krasinski. Season 4 of that is on the way.

Reacher will drop on February 4 on Prime Video.
