CYBERJAYA: Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah today said Transformasi Nasional (TN50) will be one of the core elements in the 2018 Budget.
He said 2018 Budget would build the foundations needed to steer Malaysia towards goals set in TN50.
"We cannot wait until 2050 to get things done. We have to start now (as) the Prime Minister is targeting (to see things happening) somewhere in 2018," Irwan told reporters after a luncheon in conjunction with Cyberjaya 20th Anniversary at Cyberview Resort.
He said efforts were being made to put in the groundwork now, including educational, housing and social aspects.
"We are still at the discussion stage, so it is too early for me to elaborate."
On the 2017 Budget, Irwan said things were moving as planned and due to higher oil prices the government had funds to spare.
"We have asked them (the ministries) to spend less and save more. Now, there is fiscal space for us to provide more allocations to some ministries, such as education and defence," he added.
