Toddler killed, six hurt in SUV-lorry collision in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: A toddler was killed when the Toyota Vigo driven by his father collided with a lorry at Km13 of Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan last night.

Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said Mohammad Zuhayr Zac Mohammad Azri, 2, died on the spot, while another passenger, believed to be the victim's grandfather, 61, was seriously injured in the 9.50pm accident.

"The Toyota Vigo and the lorry were travelling from Sandakan to Lahad Datu, when the SUV's driver lost control of the vehicle after rear-ending the lorry while trying to overtake it," Hamzah said.

Due to the impact of the collision, the lorry skidded and overturned into a ditch on the left side of the road, while the SUV, carrying six passengers including the driver, spun on the road before coming to a stop.

The lorry driver and four others in the SUV suffered minor injuries. --BERNAMA
