Tom Hardy takes on Al Capone role

The Oscar-nominated actor from "The Revenant" will become infamous organized crime boss Al Capone in a new biopic called "Fonzo", which is to be directed by Josh Trank of "Chronicle" fame.

Trank will direct from his own script and Tom Hardy, whose reputation as an actor has only grown since his 2010 breakthrough with "Inception", will play Capone during his last days.

Notorious as a Prohibition-era bootlegger and crime boss, Al Capone served eight years of an 11-year sentence for tax evasion (and not for his other, more criminal activities), but his memories were ravaged by dementia during his final years.

With Hardy, Trank, and key producers already signed on, "Fonzo" is being taken to the American Film Market, which starts November 2, where a production deal is expected to be made.
