Tom Holland explains why Uncharted is different to other game movies
The much-delayed Uncharted movie has undergone many different guises, but Sony seems to have finally settled on a version starring their very popular Spider-Man actor, Tom Holland.
It was an interesting casting choice, since the Drake is the game is a fair bit older. According to Holland, however, it's the origin story that will set it apart from other video game movies.
Speaking to IGN, the actor said: "I think what Uncharted offers [what] most video games films don't [in] that it's an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the film.
"And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the film because it's information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I'm super excited to make that movie and it's been a long time coming."
We'd argue that other video game movies (like Tomb Raider and even the first Resident Evil) have done that, but okay. Also, Uncharted 3 and 4 delved into Nate's origin story, but there's still plenty to explore.
Holland also said that he has read the latest draft of the script, from writer Joe Carnahan, and claimed that "it's one of the best scripts I've ever read. It really, really jumps off the page."
Recently, the movie lost its sixth director in Travis Knight, while reports have stated that the studio is circling Ruben Fleischer, who did Venom and Zombieland for Sony, to chart the course (if you pardon the pun).
The film was also delayed, yet again, from a December 2020 to a March 2021 release date.
We will have to ait and see if it will make it on time.
