Our top choices for new & hidden gems at Kopitiam worth making the journey for

All along, I have had the impression that Kopitiam only offers Singaporean delights which are familiar and close to our hearts. However, I was living under a rock. These days, the popular food court chain leaves you spoiled for choice with their multi-regional cuisine selection that includes Korean, Indonesian and even Turkish. We’re really blessed!

Turkish Kebab Corner is nestled within Cantine on the 2nd floor of Northpoint City‘s South Wing. The food court houses a wide selection of Halal stalls which include nasi padang, Thai food and Japanese cuisine.

Chef Hajaji Jamal has 20 years of experience in the F&B industry, including 18 years at the now-defunct Deli Moroccan on Arab Street. In 2020, he made the move to the basement of Northpoint City, operating a takeaway booth before recently transitioning to Cantine.

Everything from the pita to the pide (Turkish pizza) dough is hand-stretched on order using special flour and then baked fresh.

Indulge in soft and airy pita that’s absolutely divine. Have something light like the Cheese Pita (S$4.90) or go all out and order the Beef Pita (S$7.90), which utilises slow-cooked meats that burst with juiciness. They are served with a side of fries and come stuffed with salad, cucumber, tomatoes, minced beef patty, yoghurt and chilli sauce.

Exploding with cheesy goodness, their range of pide includes Spinach (S$10) and Beef (S$12), and will surely hit the spot.

The Kopitiam Food Hall @ Jurong Point houses Chop Chop Curry Rice which is set up by Mr Liu who was left in awe after experiencing delicious old-school authentic curry rice in Johor, Malaysia. Leaving his business and family for 3 months, he embarked on an apprenticeship with the stall owner to learn the ropes.

The curry rice stall emphasises on nostalgic flavours from the 90s and has a whole repertoire of dishes from meats to curry dishes and stir-fried veggies.

The massive floor-to-ceiling glass windows allow tons of natural light to seep through the space as you dine here during lunch.

Take your pick from various sets like Set A (S$7.80) which comes with pork chop, egg, vegetables and soup (seaweed egg drop soup, pickled vegetable tofu soup or cabbage tofu soup).

I tried the aromatic Curry Chicken and it had a well-rounded flavour with a spicy kick at the end— it was genuinely solid in my books!

The Mami Chicken reminded me of char siew at first, but after finding out more from the chef, I learnt that it’s a sweet and sour sauce with touches of sugar and vinegar— simply delicious.

Enjoy an assortment of tantalising and mouth-watering authentic Indonesian dishes that don’t disappoint. Penyet King, located at Cantine @ Causeway Point offers an assortment of grilled and smashed meats served together with their delectable sambal.

My go-to dish here is definitely the Bawal Sambal Hijau w Rice (S$9.50). The aromatic sambal made with chunky green chillies provides a subtle heat that complements the crispy fried pomfret really well. Finish it off with some pillowy-soft fried tau kwa and crunchy raw cabbage to reduce the jelak-ness.

There’s also Ayam Bakar w Rice (S$7.80) and Empal Bakar w Rice (grilled marinated beef) (S$9). If you’re a spice fanatic, challenge yourself and savour the Dendeng Sambal Belado w Rice (S$9) or Ayam Sambal Belado w Rice (S$7.80).

Watching your calories? No problem. The stall offers Mee Bakso (S$6) which is a healthier choice.

Established in 2018, the founder of I LIKE CHICKEN 爱喜鸡 has a decade of catering experience in a famed Korean fried chicken brand. Putting down roots at Kopitiam @ Tampines 1, the stall specialising in Western delights offers its patrons 12 varieties of Korean boneless fried chicken.

Treat yourself to classics like Original (S$4.50/S$10.80/S$15) and Garlic Soy (S$8.50/S$12.50/S$18) or try their range of interesting flavours such as Jalapeno (S$4.50/S$12.50/S$18) and Creamy Onion (S$4.50/S$12.50/S$18).

I’m very intrigued by how the Durian (S$4.50/S$12.50/S$18) will taste like— it’s a wacky flavour on the menu, that’s for sure!

If you’re heading to Kopitiam @ VivoCity, be sure to visit Penang Cuisine for their smorgasbord of dishes like Penang Fried Kway Teow (S$6.80/S$8.50) or Kampung Fried Rice (S$7.50). But I’m going to stop you in your tracks and shift your attention to their tempting display of golden-brown fritters instead.

Perfect for breakfast, a midday snack or just something to ease the hunger pangs, the Pisang Goreng (banana fritter) (S$0.80 per piece/S$3.80 for 5 pieces) and Keledek Goreng (sweet potato) (S$0.90 per piece/S$2.50 for 3 pieces) is crispy and flaky on the outside and delightfully sweet inside.

You will not go wrong with the trustworthy combination of a hot and crispy You Tiao (S$1.20 per piece) or Butterfly Bun (S$1.20 per piece) together with a cup of Fresh Soya Bean Drink (S$2.30).

This stall even sells my favourite Epok-Epok (Malay version of curry puff) (S$1.20 per piece) and Bakwan Udang (prawn meatball) (S$2 per piece).

The signature dish over here, the Big Prawn Pork Ribs Noodle (S$8.50) comes in either dry or soup versions. Picture a bowl of yellow noodles served with soft and succulent pork ribs, naturally sweet red prawns, crispy fried onions, savoury onion oil and green veggies— my tummy is already rumbling.
