High-tech product releases announced the week ending October 12 include the Samsug Stratosphere, Motorola Atrix 2 and Pantech Vega LTE smartphones, the affordable Nokia C2-05 handset and the JBL OnBeat Xtreme wireless speaker dock.

The Samsung Stratosphere combines a five-row QWERTY keyboard with 4G LTE connectivity and a 4-inch Super AMOLED display. The Stratosphere is reminiscent of Samsung’s Epic 4G smartphone in design and comes with 5MP (back) and 1.3MP (front) cameras, 480p video recording, a 1GHz processor, mobile hotspot for up to eight devices, Samsung's AllShare wireless connectivity, download speeds of up to 12 Mbps, and Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile operating system. The Stratosphere is available in the US for $149.99 after rebates on a two-year contract.

A powerful Android smartphone with HD video and built-in data encryption

The Motorola Atrix 2 comes with a huge 4.3-inch (960x540) qHD screen and an 8MP camera that captures 1080p HD videos at 30 frames per second. It has On Device Encryption, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4G HSPA+ connectivity with download speeds of up to 21 Mbps and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Motorola Atrix 2 will be launched on October 16 in the US with subsequent launches planned for China, Asia, Middle East and Latin America. Pricing starts at $99.99 on a two-year contract.

The world’s first LTE phone to respond to human movement

The Pantech (Sky) Vega LTE is the world’s first motion sensor LTE smartphone. It features a motion sensor in the front-facing camera that lets you answer the phone, turn the page of an e-book and listen to music without touching the phone. It also boasts the world’s highest resolution display on an LTE handset -- a 1280x800 pixel, 4.5”  WXGA LCD display. It sports a Qualcomm 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, NFC, a slim form factor that’s just 9.35mm thin, and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Vega LTE will be available in South Korea in mid-October. No word on pricing.

A sliding smartphone-like handset for cash-strapped social networkers

The Nokia C2-05 is a style-conscious feature phone that borrows features from the smartphone world. It has Facebook and Twitter apps plus the new Nokia Browser which compresses websites to make them load quickly and consume less bandwidth. The device features a slide-out number pad, and has access to the Nokia Store for apps, a VGA camera, media player, FM radio with built-in recorder, Bluetooth, a 2” display and up to 20 hours battery life. The Nokia C2-05 will be available in Q4. The device is priced at around €50, contract-free.
