Tottenham on alert as Bayern sack Julian Naglesmann and appoint Thomas Tuchel

Bayern Munich have sensationally sacked Julian Naglesmann, according to reports in Germany.

A 2-1 loss at Bayer Leverkusen appears to have spelled the end of Naglesmann's tenure, as Bundesliga title rivals Borussia Dortmund leapfrogged them into top spot ahead of the season run-in.

Bayern have seen a 10-point lead over Dortmund evaporate since the start of the year and Nagelsmann, according to Bild, has paid with his job.

The club's sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, said after the recent loss: "That's not what Bayern means. So little drive, mentality, duel, assertiveness - I've rarely experienced that."

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly the frontrunner for the job, and his first match will be against Dortmund, who he previously managed.

News of Tuchel’s appointment will be a blow to Tottenham, who are expected to soon be on the lookout for a new head coach of their own.

Antonio Conte is widely expected to be sacked during the international break, and coach Ryan Mason has been tipped to take over on an interim basis. Tuchel is on Spurs’ list of possible permanent replacements for Conte.

However, Naglesmann will also be of interest to Tottenham. The former RB Leipzig manager was among the names shortlisted to replace Jose Mourinho in 2021 before he was appointed by Bayern and his reputation is suffered little despite his imminent sacking.
