Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou confirms Cristian Romero injury latest and provides Richarlison update

Tottenham have been dealt a fresh injury blow after Cristian Romero was forced off with a foot problem in their win against Aston Villa.

Spurs have already lost Micky van de Ven to a hamstring injury and Ange Postecoglou is now sweating over the fitness of his other main centre-back.

Romero appeared to hurt himself when making a challenge on Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers in the second half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Argentina defender took off his right boot and had treatment on the pitch before being substituted.

His injury is a major concern for Spurs, who are set to be without Van de Ven until at least the November international break.

Spurs also lost Richarlison to an injury against Villa.

The Brazilian came on as a second-half substitute and injured himself in setting up a second goal for Dominic Solanke that put Spurs 3-1 up.

Speaking after Spurs won 4-1 to move to within two points of fourth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League table, Postecoglou said: “Richarlison felt his hamstring and Romero got a knock.

“We just have to deal with what we have to deal with. We have guys who can come in and were going to need that."

Postecoglou took Heung-min Son off before the hour mark on his comeback from injury.

“He was never going to play more than 55 minutes,” said Postecoglou.

“Last time he came back from injury he got to the 60-minute mark and got injured again. He got through unscathed."
