Tottenham fined €20,000 by Uefa after Jose Mourinho held ‘responsible’ for late Champions League kick-off
Tottenham Hotspur have been fined €20,000 by Uefa after head coach Jose Mourinho was deemed “responsible” for the club’s late Champions League kick-off against RB Leipzig on 19 February.
The round of 16 tie commenced approximately three minutes late, although the specifics of why Mourinho was to blame remain unclear.
A statement released by Uefa read: “The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided:
To fine Tottenham Hotspur €20,000 for being responsible for the late kick-off.
The above fine must be paid within 90 days of communication of this decision.
To warn Tottenham Hotspur coach, José Mário Dos Santos Mourinho Félix, for being responsible for the late kick-off.
Tottenham Hotspur ensures that its coach is personally informed of this decision.
RB Leipzig were also charged and fined €2,250 after their supporters threw objects onto the pitch.
Manchester City also fell foul of Uefa’s guidelines after a “kit infringement” relating to the size of their sponsor on a training kit during their 2-1 victory against Real Madrid on 26 February. The club received a €3,000 fine.
