Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the timeline of his shock Bayern Munich hiring as Tottenham missed out on the chance of hiring him.

Tuchel has been appointed by the German giants on a two-and-a-half-year deal to replace Julian Nagelsmann in a shock move, with Bayern just one point off the top of the Bundesliga and in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Spurs are widely expected to soon sack Antonio Conte, the manager a week ago having launched a remarkable tirade on his "selfish" players, questioning their desire to win and personal motivations.

Conte has been in Italy since Monday morning but Bayern, sensing Spurs would make an approach for Tuchel, decided to sack Nagelsmann the night before and made contact with Tuchel on Tuesday.

"Things went quickly," Tuchel told reporters at Saturday's unveiling. "The timing was surprising, I didn't expect it and there was no contact beforehand. I assumed that I would continue my career abroad.

He added: "The first interview was on Tuesday evening ... it's a top solution for me."

"On Tuesday evening I started thinking about the squad. In England and in Paris, they rate Bayern extremely highly. Nobody wants to play against Bayern Munich. The size, the strength of the club is undisputed."

Spurs are now expected to be interested in a move for Tuchel’s predecessor, Nagelsmann, as they work on a plan once Conte’s departs.
