A Sky Sports reporter has delivered a damning response to speculation linking Tottenham with raiding Man Utd for an unwanted star, though a separate £66m deal is now in play.

Who’ll be in the Spurs dugout when the international break concludes is as yet unclear. Antonio Conte’s position is hanging by a thread, with recently axed Bayern Munich boss, Julian Nagelsmann, fast emerging as a viable replacement.

Whoever is chosen to lead Tottenham into next season, one thing is for sure – a new starting goalkeeper is required.

Calls had begun to grow for Hugo Lloris to be axed all the way back in January. The 36-year-old has been a fine servant in north London, though the cracks are showing in his game as the years roll on.

Indeed, Lloris leads all Premier League players in errors leading to a goal this season. What makes his mark of four all the worse is the fact only one other player (Everton’s Idrissa Gueye) is on three.

Lloris’ contract has another year left to run, though if Spurs are ruthless, they’ll sever ties 12 months early.

All manner of goalkeepers have been linked with displacing Lloris between the sticks.

From within the Premier League, Jordan Pickford and David Raya are both known to be on Spurs’ radar. Man Utd’s Dean Henderson is another to have been mentioned alongside a move to north London.

Indeed, ESPN recently reported Tottenham were showing interest in signing the 26-year-old this summer.

Dean Henderson to Tottenham draws telling response

Henderson is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, though there is no option to buy within his deal.

Henderson will thus return to Old Trafford this summer, though how long he’ll stay is another matter entirely.

Indeed,  an ill-advised and explosive interview with talkSPORT in pre-season saw Henderson reveal he was “fuming” at Man Utd after labelling the way he was treated by the club as “criminal”.

Man Utd hope to tie David de Gea down to fresh terms on a reduced basic salary. A reliable number two will be targeted this summer and if the one-year option in Tom Heaton’s contract is activated, Henderson will be out in the cold.

A move to Spurs was therefore touted by ESPN who added that deal could simultaneously increase United’s chances of landing Harry Kane. Henderson could be used as a makeweight to lower the overall price of a move that otherwise, will cost £100m-plus.

But according to Sky Sports reporter, Michael Bridge, news of Tottenham’s interest in Hnederson is wide of the mark.

Bridge tweeted he understands “Dean Henderson is not a Tottenham Hotspur transfer target this summer.”

With that goes any chance of the Forest loanee replacing Lloris at Spurs.

£66m move for Portugal ace in play

However, a Tottenham move for an even higher profile stopper is looking increasingly more gettable.

Indeed, in a TEAMtalk exclusive, transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, revealed Spurs are a “huge fan” of FC Porto’s Diogo Costa.

Their admiration is replicated over at Man Utd and Chelsea too, but of the three, Tottenham’s need for a new No 1 will be the greatest this summer.

Bailey revealed Porto are facing financial turmoil this summer if they don’t raise around £50m in short order. The quickest way to alleviate their crisis is by sanctioning a high profile player sale.

Brazilian striker Evanilson was branded one to “keep an eye on”, though arguably the more intriguing player potentially up for grabs is goalkeeper Costa.

The Portuguese number one signed a new deal with Porto in November that upped his release clause to €75m (approx. £66m).

Whether Porto would accept a bid for a sum below the clause is unknown at present, though their off-field issues could play a role.

At 23, Costa would represent a signing capable of holding down a starting role for over a decade – just as Lloris did.
