Tottenham player ratings vs Ipswich: Jittery Radu Dragusin continues to struggle as Spurs fall flat

Tottenham’s stuttering form continued as Ipswich earned a first Premier League win in 22 years with a 2-1 victory in north London.

First-half goals from Sammie Szmodics - a lovely overhead kick - and Liam Delap left Spurs with another deficit at the interval.

They characteristically rallied after the break, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading home in the 69th minute to make it 2-1, but could not find an equaliser against the resilient Tractor Boys.

Here’s how we rated Spurs players…

Guglielmo Vicario 6

Inadvertently palmed Leif Davis’ cross into Radu Dragusin ahead of Delap’s goal, though he was not really to blame. Well beaten twice and did not have another serious save to make.

Pedro Porro 5

Frustrated in the final third with some floaty crosses, which were easy to defend. Looks jaded.

Cristian Romero 5

Dragged out of position ahead of the second Ipswich goal and could not recover in time.

Radu Dragusin 4

Did not adjust his feet quickly enough to prevent Delap’s goal and looked jittery all afternoon. Not especially comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Destiny Udogie 5

Struggled to make inroads down the left in a flat performance.

Rodrigo Bentancur 7

Dragged Spurs back into the game with an outstanding header and played well at the base of midfield. However, the Uruguayan went too ground too quickly for Ipswich’s second goal, leaving him stranded on the halfway line as the visitors countered.

Dejan Kulusevski 5

Worked hard, as usual, but probably had his least impactful game on the ball in a long time. It was a surprise Postecoglou did not call for James Maddison sooner.

Pape Sarr 6

Kept Spurs ticking over but took a series of kickings and was eventually forced off with what looked like an uncomfortable injury.

Brennan Johnson 3

Inexplicably failed to challenge Szmodics for the opening goal and was anonymous in the final third, aside from an early effort which he steered wide of the near post.

Heung-min Son 5

Tested Arijanet Muric with a trademark curling effort but wasteful two further openings from similar positions. Started well but faded in the second half.

Dominic Solanke 5

Missed a one-v-one with Muric in stoppage-time, albeit from a tight angle. Extended the keeper with a low effort in the first half and had a goal disallowed for hand after the break.

Subs

Timo Werner (Sarr 66’) 6

Lively but characteristically wasteful in the final third, firing over from a good position late on. Did force Muric to save with a long-range effort.

Yves Bissouma (Bentancur 84’) 5

Gave away a careless foul on Omari Hutchinson in stoppage-time, allowing Ipswich to run down the clock.

James Maddison (Johnson 84’) 5

Not enough time to make a significant impact, raising the question of how he did not come on sooner.

Not used: Forster, Gray, Bergvall, Spence, Davies, Lankshear.
