Intermediaries working on behalf of Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik are meeting Tottenham Hotspur officials this afternoon as back-up striking options to Harry Kane continue to be explored.

Milik, who has less than a year remaining on his contract at Napoli, was on the verge of joining AS Roma before a failure to agree personal terms saw the deal collapse.

Jose Mourinho has repeatedly and publicly insisted that Spurs need to sign a striker before the transfer window closes next month.

Milik was set to join Roma on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy for around £16.5m, with further performance-based add-ons included in the deal.

A similar fee may still appease Napoli, who have already signed Milik’s replacement, Victor Osimhen, and are keen to offload the 26-year-old, who was left out of their matchday squad on the opening weekend of the Serie A season.
