Tottenham tipped for brutal summer clearout as pundit suggests several stars should depart
Tottenham are expected to have a busy summer transfer window as there is uncertainty over several first-team players and their futures at the club.
There’s no denying that this has been a disappointing season for Spurs. The club sit eighth in the table and are unlikely to be in Europe next season.
The future of Harry Kane remains up in the air as his contract is set to expire in 2024. Man Utd are still exploring ways to sign the 29-year-old this summer.
Lucas Moura is set to depart at the end of the season and several other players could follow him out the door.
Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are both out on contract in 2024 and are among the players that could depart.
Alan Hutton thinks that there will be plenty of movement at Spurs in the summer as they look to freshen up the squad.
“If you ask most supporters would say that out-with Kane it is probably time for a change of personnel, it is probably time for them to move on,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“The likes of Sanchez that have been there for a long period of time and it has not worked. It is the ideal opportunity, they are running their contracts down, to move them on and get other people in.
“Try and shift the mentality and bring in young guys who are hungry and want to go and do something.
“When you have had a lot of players from the [Mauricio] Pochettino era moving forward with all this baggage, it is difficult to turn that round.
“I think you have to inject fresh blood into the group if you want to change it.”
Spurs need to find new manager
Having been turned down by Feyenoord manager Arne Slot, Tottenham need to sort their managerial situation before delving into the market.
The Dutch boss did look like a natural fit, but he has since reaffirmed his loyalty to Feyenoord amid the interest.
“I have heard a lot about the interest of other clubs in me,” Slot told Algemeen Dagblad.
“I’m grateful for the appreciation that this expresses, but my wish is to stay with Feyenoord. I want to continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons.
“There are no transfer talks going on and there have been none and yesterday’s discussion was solely about a possible extension. All conversations with Feyenoord are only aimed at that.
“I look forward to the new season at Feyenoord.”
Spurs have since been linked with Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano. The Italian manager has guided his side to the Europa Conference League final where they will take on West Ham.
The likes of Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers have also been linked with the job over the past few months.
With the summer transfer window drawing closer, Daniel Levy will be keen to make an appointment soon.
