Tottenham vs Newcastle: Premier League prediction, TV channel, live stream, start time, team news, h2h results

Tottenham will look to make it four wins on the bounce in their third game of the new Premier League season at home to Newcastle this afternoon.

Jose Mourinho's side come off a confidence-boosting 5-2 hammering of Southampton last week, which preceded a mid-week Europa League win in North Macedonia.

A win would cap a fine week for Tottenham, though they have no time to rest with a Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea on Tuesday, before a final Europa League qualifier on Thursday and Manchester United on Sunday.

They come up against a Newcastle side also with one win and a loss in their opening two Premier League games, buoyed by a 7-0 Carabao Cup third-round win over Morecambe.

Date, time and venue

Tottenham vs Newcastle is scheduled for a 2pm BST kick-off.

This match will be played behind closed doors at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with no fans due to be present due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus.

How to watch

TV channel: The match will be shown live on Sky Sports' Premier League and Main Event channels, and is available via Now TV

Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can stream the match online via SkyGo and the SkyGo app.

Team news

Sergio Reguilon could be in line for his Tottenham debut after he trained with his team-mates for the first time on Friday.

The Spanish left-back is yet to be involved since his high-profile arrival from Real Madrid, while the match will come too soon for Gareth Bale.

After Tanguy Ndombele played his first 90 minutes of 2020, Jose Mourinho must decide if he's fit enough to start a third successive game.

Mourinho is expected to recall Matt Doherty, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Giovani Lo Celso, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane to the side.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a doubt, however, having suffered an ankle injury that kept him out of Thursday's match in North Macedonia.

Alan Smith's weekend briefing

The jury remains very much out as to whether Jose Mourinho is the right man to turn Tottenham’s fortunes around. But any manager is only as good as his players — and you can’t say that Spurs don’t have some useful choices.

This might be a season, in fact, when the team gets by on sheer talent, rather than any inspirational tactics from the man on the touchline.

I mean, once Gareth Bale gets fit, you’re looking at a forward line capable of conquering any defence. Though the Amazon cameras have gone, the drama should continue.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Newcastle

Tottenham go into this game as undoubted favourites, having won five of their last six games against the Magpies.

Though in free-scoring form against Southampton, Tottenham are yet to claim a clean sheet this season, something Mourinho will be keen to correct on Sunday.

Newcastle looked less than convincing in their 3-0 home defeat to Brighton last weekend, and I can't see past a home win here.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

Tottenham and Newcastle are certainly no strangers having met a whopping 162 times in their history.

It's the home side who enter the fixture with the better record, having won on 71 occasions, as opposed to Newcastle's 59 wins, alongside 32 draws.

It was Newcastle who emerged as victors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, however, thanks to a rare Joelinton goal.
