SINGAPORE — Tour de France yellow-jacket winners Chris Froome and Vincenzo Nibali will be among a strong field of top cyclists to take part in the first-ever Singapore Criterium event on 29 and 30 October.

In a media release on Thursday (6 October), Tour de France said that four-time yellow-jacket winner Froome, 2014 champion Nibali and his brother Antonio, as well as Spanish cycling great Alejandro Valverde, have confirmed their participations.

They will join 34-time Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish and reigning champion Jonas Vingegaard, who earlier confirmed their participation in the specially-designed street circuit in the heart of the city.

"I’m looking forward to travelling to Singapore for the inaugural Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium," said 37-year-old Froome.

"Competitive elements aside, part of the fun of racing is also that we get to travel to new places, enjoy new experiences and introduce our sport to more fans from all over the world."

The Singapore Criterium will also hold special significance for Valverde and Vincenzo Nibali, as it will be one of their final professional races, with both having announced their retirements from the sport later this year.

The professional criterium race on 30 October will also feature three International Cycling Union continental teams: Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team from Malaysia, the Thailand Continental Cycling Team, and LX Cycling Team from South Korea.

Avid cyclists can join the Amateur Criterium races

Avid cyclists can also be a part of the action by joining the Singapore Amateur Criterium races. The top 10 finishers in each of the three categories are eligible to accumulate Singapore Cycling Federation ranking points.

In addition to a men’s seniors and men’s masters amateur criterium races, a women’s open criterium has also been added to the race day programme.

Registration fee for all categories is $220 and participants receive entitlements worth nearly $300 – a two-day pass to the Singapore Criterium and an event jersey. The two-day pass grants its holders access to a slew of exciting activities and entertainment options during race weekend, in addition to the highly-anticipated professional criterium on 30 October.

Cycling enthusiasts can also be a part of the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium through joining either the Brompton World Championship, PRURIDE Seeker’s Society, or The Absolute Cycle Race.
