Tourism ministry creates app to lure Japanese tourists

Bali's amazing view: The app currently provides tourists with a guide to Bali, an island which is very popular among Japanese tourists.

The Tourism Ministry has introduced a mobile application in Japanese as a part of its effort to attract more tourists from Japan.

Set to be launched this year, the so-called Indonesia Paradise app will be a useful guide to destinations in Indonesia and is being developed by PT U Connectivity Services (UCS), an Indonesian technology and digital media company, and Shobunsha Publications, Inc., a Japanese map and travel information company that released a travel app for tourists coming to Japan called DiGJAPAN!.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on their alliance on May 22, witnessed by the Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.

“Japan is one of our main markets for tourism. According to visitor arrival data from March 2015, it is Indonesia's third biggest international tourist provider after Malaysia and China,” Arief told a press conference on May 22.

According to UCS president director Imawan Mashuri, the app currently provides tourists with a guide to Bali, an island which is very popular among Japanese tourists.

"We will soon add Jakarta and Riau Islands to our list of destination on the app," said Imawan.
