The Toyota bZ4X aims to be a comfortable AWD EV

Many concept cars are the products of their carmakers' imagination. But judging from the complete exterior and interior of the Toyota bZ4X, it looks like a car that will see the light at the end of the factory tunnel.

The bZ4X concept, just like the Subaru Solterra, uses the same battery electric vehicle (BEV)-dedicated platform. The platform will combine "Toyota’s legendary quality, durability, and reliability" and all-wheel drive (AWD) "to achieve a driving experience that is both comfortable and engaging."

The Toyota bZ4X Concept is ready for North America, as Toyota shared its vision for a series of BEVs under the “Toyota bZ” brand umbrella.

“We are already global leaders in electrification, with the industry’s most popular and proven range of gasoline-electric hybrid models, plus plug-in hybrids and fuel cell electric vehicles,” Toyota Canada Vice President Cyril Dimitris said.

“With the bZ4X, we’re gearing up to introduce North Americans to the first of a series of new models,” he added.

The BEV SUV concept features a long wheelbase with short overhangs to provide ample interior space, while the open-concept interior aims to enhance driver comfort and confidence.

The low position of the instrument panel and the location of the meters above the steering wheel not only help expand the vehicle’s sense of space, but also increase visibility to aid in safe and secure driving.

Toyota said it envisions a carbon-neutral future through a portfolio of products with "advanced, alternative-fuel and zero-emission powertrain technologies."

Toyota plans to bring around 70 electrified models globally by 2025. This future lineup will feature 15 dedicated BEVs, including seven carrying the bZ "Beyond Zero" moniker.

Also, Toyota intends to create an electric pickup truck lineup in the near future. These electrified products will help propel Toyota toward its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

More information on the production bZ4X will be shared later this year, with sales planning to begin in 2022, Toyota added.
